Kelly Doty is one of my favorite tattoo artists and here is why;
So did that whet your appetite? If you are not familiar with Ms. Doty’s work you may have a couple of questions. Maybe you are thinking you are looking at paintings? Your not. These are all tattoos! Or perhaps you have never seen this style and are thinking to yourself…”Self, what is this intriguing tattoo style called?”. The answer is New School.
Of course Kelly puts her own distinctive stamp on this expansive style by featuring lots of horror, books and movie influences. You lika the creepy? Kelly is your gal. And she is a hell of a gal too.
Kelly Doty began tattooing in 2007 and has gone on to become one of the premier tattoo artists in the country and beyond. She has tattooed all over the world but is an East Coast girl at heart and is now based in Salem Massachusetts at her brand new shop Gold Dust Gallery – of which she is the proud co-owner!
Kelly is not one to blather on and on about her motives and process – which is awesome. Here is her short, to the point bio from her website, ” Originally from Connecticut, I’ve been tattooing since 2007. I’ve traveled extensively and currently call Studio 13 in Indiana my home, but I remain a New Englander at heart! I specialize in spooky pop surrealist tattooing, big eyed girls and bobble-headed animals all with a dark side. If it’s grim but cute, you’ll find me there.” Any questions?
She also has the best About page photo ever.
And what is not to love about this hard working, insanely talented and witty young artist? She is on my short list of artists I want to work with for sure.
If you know Kelly and can get me an appointment name your casserole and I will Fed Ex it to your house. I promise!
